Chilly temperatures and icy winds can wreak havoc on the health of your hair, depleting it of precious moisture and leaving your locks dry, frizzy, and brittle.   How do you safeguard your hair against Old Man Winter and keep it looking beautiful?  Follow our tips below for amazing, healthy hair that will stay soft and hydrated through winter’s harshest chills.

TIP #1:  MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE!
Keeping your hair properly hydrated will go a long way toward reducing frizz and reviving a healthy, resilient glow.   One of the best  collections for dry hair is L’Oreal Professionel Absolut Repair which is available at our salon.   Stressed out, weakened, and dry hair will absolutely love this set of hair care products.   The shampoo is enriched with Lactic Acid technology and gently eliminates residue while protecting the hair fiber for regained strength and shine.  The conditioner is designed to repair & revitalize the surface of the hair for instant detangling, softness and shine. For deeper conditioning, you can choose the masque which offers more intense therapy to restore softness, manageability, and a lustrous finish.

For maximum benefit, allow the conditioning masque to stay on your hair for up to 5 minutes so that your hair has a chance to thoroughly absorb the product.  You can also smooth a small amount of conditioner from the mid-section of your hair down to the ends after showering and towel drying.  This will coat and seal your hair cuticle, making it smooth and cutting down on dryness while adding softness and manageability to your locks.

TIP #2:  SAFEGUARD YOUR HAIR FROM HEAT DAMAGE
Try to keep heat styling to a minimum during the winter season.  Heat styling tools such as flat irons and curling irons as well as high temp blow dryers can dry your hair and cause damage to the hair cuticle.  Before you pick up the blow dryer or curling iron, reach for a protective heat spray or serum.
Serums provide essential protection against any kind of heat styling.  This is crucial for all hair types, but especially for anyone who has fine hair, which is more susceptible to the kind of cuticle damage that can be caused by high temperatures.

One of the best options on the market is LISS ULTIME THERMO-SMOOTHING OIL which is also available at our hair salon.   This is a  heat-activated smoothing oil that provides a long lasting, anti-humidity shield to protect your hair and keep it frizz-free while adding super shine.  Start with a small amount  and use a wide tooth comb to work it into your hair after towel drying, paying special attention to your ends.  If your hair is extra-long or thick, add more oil as needed.

TIP #3:  PAMPER YOUR LOCKS WITH DEEP CONDITIONING
If your hair appears to have passed the point of no return, it may be time to plan for some intense, deep conditioning.  Hair that is severely damaged, dry or frizzy can be rejuvenated and restored to a healthier state after a deep conditioning therapy such as a L’Oreal  Fiberceutic treatment.  Fiberceutic treatments work from the inside-out to provide long-lasting reconstruction for very damaged, stressed, or chemically-processed hair.   A special blend of ingredients help to repair damage, strengthen the hair cuticle, and add nutrition to strands that have been depleted of vital nutrients.  You will be amazed at how soft, smooth, shiny, and resilient your hair feels after a Fiberceutic treatment.

TIP #4:  AVOID PRODUCTS WITH ALCOHOL
Alcohol has a drying effect.  When products containing alcohol are applied to hair, this can contribute to serious moisture loss which leads to static and breakage.  Check the ingredients on the labels of your styling products and opt for those which are alcohol free.

TIP #5:   SHAMPOO LESS OFTEN
Unless your hair is just tremendously oily, you probably do not need to shampoo it every day.  Washing your hair less frequently (such as every other day) gives your hair a break and allows natural oils to be replenished.   If your hair has been color-treated, less frequent shampoos will also keep your color from fading as quickly.
When you shampoo, avoid rinsing with hot water as this can contribute to moisture loss and lead to split ends, breakage, and frizz.  Use warm water instead, and then do a final rinse in cold water which will seal the hair cuticle and give your tresses gorgeous shine.

TIP #6:  HYDRATE AND HUMIDIFY
Hydrating your body and hair from the inside out is excellent advice for any time of year, but especially during winter months.   Drink plenty of water throughout the day, every day, to keep your body, skin and hair filled with life-giving moisture.  You can also place humidifiers in your home or office to combat dry air and low humidity.
